The run is more than just a park to exercise our dogs; it is a safe outdoor space that we can use anytime. For many of us, it is our opportunity to get outdoors, work with our hands, and pretend we're not completely "citified". If you want to be left alone with your dog, you'll get that. If you want to meet neighborhood folks and get involved, you'll get that. Generally, whatever you want to make of it, you'll get out of it.

Volunteering - Not Just for "Other People"

We want all of our neighborhood dogs to have a great place to play and socialize, but that takes time. Participation is necessary to maintain the run. Some jobs are very small and only take a few moments during your regular visit to the run, while others require more time and commitment; all of them are necessary. The city has full time staff to maintain its parks, but Astro's Community Dog Run only has its members. To see how you can help, view the list of job descriptions and current volunteers and then email the Volunteer Recruiter (recruiter at hkdogrun dot org) to volunteer.

There are 3 jobs that we ask everyone to share in addition to volunteering. Those are: Taking out the garbage, Picking up litter & "Poop + 1."

Donating

The run would not be so pleasant and well maintained without the extra donations that our members give every year. In addition to being used for repairs and improvements, donations also cover membership fees for members that can't afford to pay the full amount. If you are able to pay more than the $25/year membership fee, please do. You can even specify which part of the budget your donation be used for if you would like. You can donate at CB4, by giving a check to one of the council members, or you can even make a donation online!
